How UNITO recycled cotton is made
01. Sorting
Sorting yarn & fabric waste from the mill into recyclable and disposable items.
02. Cutting
To facilitate post-processing, the sorted cotton pieces are cut into smaller pieces.
03. Blend
Water and oil are added to the cut cotton to neutralize static electricity. It would be kept after blending uniformly.
04. Tearing (opening)
Machines with advanced cutting technology tear the fibers into even smaller pieces while minimizing breakage.
05. Press
Teared cotton fiber will be pressed into bales.
Learn more about
recycled cotton
Recycled cotton may be the most familiar sustainable material in our daily lives.
Project leader Takemoto will answer questions about its current status and future.
Q1 Why do you focus on 100% recycled products?
Recycled cotton is the hottest topic when considering the sustainability of natural materials, but due to technical problems, the blend ratio of recycled cotton is generally limited to 20-30%. UNITO hopes to lead the industry in sustainability by offering products that competitors cannot easliy copy.
Q2 What are the differences between recycled cotton and ordinary cotton?
Ordinary cotton is made from cotton harvested in cotton fields, while recycled cotton is made from yarn & fabric waste from spinning and sewing mills to produce yarn, thereby preventing the unnecessary use of resources.
Q3 What are the challenges in making recycled cotton?
One is to obtain a stable supply of yarn & fabric waste as raw materials, and the other is to constantly produce yarn of a certain level of quality. Especially in terms of quality, the key is how to keep the blend ratio of “100% recycled” which is technically quite difficult to achieve.
Q4 What is the future of recycled cotton?
Recycled cotton is attracting more and more attention over the years. The demand for recycled materials will continue to increase in the fashion industry as well. n such a trend, we believe it is important to continue to providing materials that are guaranteed by trustworthy certification.
Safe and secure AZO-free
UNITO recycle100 is also “AZO-free” because it only comes in a genuine color with a natural texture of the material. AZO-free is a term used to indicate that the dye or pigment used in the product does not contain “AZO dyes”. Since some AZO dyes may contain carcinogenic substances, AZO-free products have recently become the choice due to concerns for human health. It is a criterion that is particularly important in clothing and cosmetics.
